Why study at Bangor
Bangor (historically celebrated as the 'Lumber Capital of the World' and the 'Queen City of the East') is the major commercial, healthcare, and educational metropolitan hub of central and eastern Maine, situated along the Penobscot River, located just 40 miles north of Acadia National Park (one of the Top 10 most visited US national parks on the Atlantic coast) and home to Bangor International Airport (BGR - direct flights to New York, Boston, and Washington D.C.). Celebrated for the iconic 31-foot Paul Bunyan Statue, the historic Victorian mansion of world-famous author Stephen King, the picturesque waterfront trails on the Penobscot River, the Collins Center for the Arts, and its thriving economy in biomedical science, composite materials engineering, forestry biotechnology, and maritime commerce. Bangor is the primary anchor and metropolitan center for Maine's premier flagship research university: University of Maine (UMaine - founded in 1865, elite Carnegie R1 Very High Research Activity flagship institution enrolling over 12,500 students on an expansive 660-acre island campus in neighboring Orono, just 10 minutes from downtown Bangor). UMaine is globally acclaimed for the Advanced Structures and Composites Center (ASCC - world pioneer in 3D-printed bio-based composite structures and floating offshore wind technology, home to the world's largest polymer 3D printer), Maine College of Engineering and Computing (ABET-accredited), School of Forest Resources, and Maine Business School (AACSB-accredited), alongside Husson University (located directly in Bangor, famed for College of Business, School of Pharmacy, and New England School of Communications NESCom), and Eastern Maine Community College (EMCC). Degrees are taught 100% in English with prestigious US accreditations. International students benefit from an exceptionally safe, scenic environment, low living costs, generous UMaine and Husson International Merit Scholarships ($5,000 to $15,000/year), free Community Connector bus transit, and direct US F-1 / I-20 Student Visa support with 3-year STEM OPT work extensions.
