Berlin is the electric, cosmopolitan capital of Germany and the startup and creative hub of Europe, world-famous for its iconic Brandenburg Gate, vibrant nightlife, rich 20th-century history, and world-class public university system where tuition is 100% FREE for all international students. Consistently ranked in the world's top 5 student cities (QS Best Student Cities), Berlin is home to Germany's elite 'Berlin University Alliance' of Excellence: Humboldt University of Berlin (HU Berlin - founded in 1810, alma mater of Albert Einstein, Karl Marx, and 57 Nobel laureates), Free University of Berlin (FU Berlin - top-ranked for Humanities, Social Sciences, and Politics), Technical University of Berlin (TU Berlin - member of TU9 elite engineering universities, top-ranked for Computer Science and Engineering), and Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin (one of Europe's largest and most famous university hospitals with more than half of all German Nobel laureates in Medicine). Over 200 degree programs are taught in English within the European Bologna framework. Students benefit from tuition-free education, nationwide Deutschlandticket transit (€29/month student rate), subsidized student dining (Mensa meals for €2.50), and Germany's 18-month post-study work visa.
