Why study at Birmingham

Birmingham (affectionately celebrated as 'The Magic City' and the healthcare and technological epicenter of the American South) is the largest metropolitan economy and cultural powerhouse in Alabama, nestled in the scenic Jones Valley at the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains, home to Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport (BHM). Celebrated for the iconic 56-foot Vulcan Statue (the largest cast-iron statue in the world, overlooking the city atop Red Mountain), the historic Birmingham Civil Rights District (National Monument), the picturesque 19-acre Railroad Park, Sloss Furnaces National Historic Landmark, and its booming modern economy in biotechnology, medical research, banking and financial technology (Regions Financial Corporation headquarters), and cybersecurity. Birmingham is the home of one of America's premier top-tier public research universities and global academic medical powerhouses: University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB - founded in 1969, elite Carnegie R1 Very High Research Activity institution consistently ranked among the Top 15 Public Research Universities in the United States for NIH funding, enrolling over 22,000 students on an expansive, pedestrian-friendly 275-acre urban campus centered around the lush Campus Green). UAB is globally acclaimed for the Marnix E. Heersink School of Medicine (anchoring the world-renowned UAB Health System - #1 hospital in Alabama and top 50 in the nation), School of Engineering (ABET-accredited leader in Biomedical, Materials, and Civil Engineering), Collat School of Business (AACSB-accredited), School of Nursing (ranked #1 in the US), School of Public Health, and College of Arts and Sciences, alongside Samford University (famed for Cumberland School of Law and McWhorter School of Pharmacy). Degrees are taught 100% in English with prestigious US accreditations. International students benefit from an exceptionally affordable cost of living, generous UAB International Academic Merit Scholarships ($5,000 to $10,000/year for undergraduate; fully-funded biomedical graduate assistantships with full tuition waivers and stipends up to $34,000/year), Blazer Express bus transit, and direct US F-1 / I-20 Student Visa support with 3-year STEM OPT work extensions.

Tuition fees in Birmingham for international undergraduate students at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB - Carnegie R1 Flagship) range between $26,500 and $29,800 per academic year for School of Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Computer Science, and Collat School of Business.
