Why study at Darmstadt
Darmstadt is officially designated as Germany's 'City of Science' (Wissenschaftsstadt Darmstadt), located in the Frankfurt Rhine-Main metropolitan region in Hesse, celebrated for the UNESCO World Heritage Mathildenhöhe artists' colony and Wedding Tower (Hochzeitsturm), the discovery of chemical element 110 (Darmstadtium), and as Europe's premier aerospace and space research capital (home to the European Space Agency's Mission Control Center - ESA ESOC, EUMETSAT satellite monitoring, and GSI Helmholtz Centre for Heavy Ion Research / FAIR particle accelerator). Darmstadt is home to world-renowned technological giants: Technical University of Darmstadt (TU Darmstadt - founded in 1877, founding member of the elite TU9 Alliance of German Institutes of Technology, world-famous for establishing the world's FIRST chair in Electrical Engineering in 1882). TU Darmstadt is globally acclaimed for Computer Science & Artificial Intelligence (home to ATHENE - the largest national research center for applied cybersecurity in Europe, and hessian.AI), Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering & Information Technology, Materials Science, and Civil Engineering, alongside Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences (Hochschule Darmstadt / h_da - leading applied university in Computer Science, Media, and Engineering) and Merck KGaA global headquarters. Higher education at TU Darmstadt is 100% TUITION-FREE (€0 tuition) for all international students. Students benefit from the nationwide Deutschlandticket transit pass, 20-minute train to Frankfurt International Airport, high-tech engineering careers, and Germany's 18-month post-study work visa.
