Why study at Montreal

Montreal (Montréal) is Canada's bilingual cultural, artistic, culinary, and scientific capital in the province of Quebec on the Island of Montreal along the St. Lawrence River. Consistently ranked among the Top 10 Best Student Cities in the World by QS, celebrated for its cobblestone historic Old Montreal (Vieux-Montréal), majestic Mount Royal Park (designed by Frederick Law Olmsted), the subterranean Underground City (RÉSO network spanning 33 km), vibrant international festivals (Montreal Jazz Festival, Just for Laughs), and its global leadership as the 'Deep Learning and Artificial Intelligence Capital of the World' (anchored by Mila - Quebec AI Institute led by Turing laureate Yoshua Bengio, Google Brain, Microsoft Research, Meta FAIR, and Ubisoft gaming headquarters). Montreal is Canada's premier academic powerhouse, home to two of the world's most elite universities: McGill University (founded in 1821, Canada's premier English-medium global research university, ranked #29 in the world in the QS World University Rankings with over 39,000 students on its iconic downtown campus at the foot of Mount Royal, boasting 12 Nobel laureates and 147 Rhodes Scholars), and Université de Montréal (UdeM - leading French-language research university ranked #159 in the world with 67,000+ students, renowned for the MILA AI institute, Faculty of Medicine, and affiliated elite schools: HEC Montréal Triple Crown business school and Polytechnique Montréal engineering school). Montreal is also home to Concordia University (major English-medium comprehensive research university with 46,000+ students, renowned for the Gina Cody School of Engineering and Computer Science and John Molson School of Business AACSB/EQUIS), and Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM). Degrees are taught in English and French within the Canadian university system. International students benefit from the most affordable university tuition and housing costs among major Canadian metropolises, generous merit scholarships, and 3-year Canadian Post-Graduation Work Permits (PGWP) with Quebec and Canadian permanent residency pathways.

Fees

Tuition fees in Montreal for international undergraduate students at English-medium institutions (McGill University - #29 QS and Concordia University) range between C$28,500 and C$56,500 per academic year for Engineering, Computer Science, AI, and Business Administration (with McGill and Concordia awarding highly competitive International Entrance Scholarships of C$5,000 to C$12,000/year to top academic achievers). At French-medium institutions (Université de Montréal UdeM and Polytechnique), international tuition ranges from C$22,500 to C$32,000/year (with the UdeM International Student Exemption Scholarship discounting fees significantly). Postgraduate Master's and PhD programs range from C$18,000 to C$32,000 per year (with extensive fully-funded graduate research assistantships in AI and engineering).
