Why study at Munich

Munich (München) is the prosperous capital of Bavaria and the economic, scientific, technological, and cultural powerhouse of Germany and Central Europe, situated along the Isar River north of the Bavarian Alps. Consistently ranked among the Top 3 Best Student Cities in the World by QS and voted Germany's #1 Most Livable Metropolis, celebrated for Marienplatz, the historic Residenz palace, the sprawling English Garden (Englischer Garten - larger than NYC's Central Park, famous for the Eisbach river surfing wave), Deutsches Museum (the world's largest museum of science and technology), and its status as Europe's corporate engineering and tech epicentre (global headquarters of DAX titans BMW Group, Siemens, Allianz, Munich Re, MTU Aero Engines, Infineon Technologies, and major European engineering hubs for Google, Apple, and Microsoft). Munich is home to two of the world's most elite, top-ranked Universities of Excellence: Technical University of Munich (TUM - founded in 1868, member of the TU9 alliance, ranked #1 in Germany and #28 in the world in the QS World University Rankings with 52,000+ students across campuses in Downtown Munich, Garching High-Tech Research Campus, and Weihenstephan, boasting 18 Nobel laureates), and Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich (LMU München - founded in 1472, ranked #54 in the world globally with 53,000+ students, boasting 43 Nobel Prize laureates), alongside Munich University of Applied Sciences (Hochschule München / HM - Germany's 2nd largest UAS) and the Munich School of Management. In Bavaria, public universities provide world-class education with heavily subsidized or zero tuition fees (TUM charges modest tuition fees for non-EU students ranging from €2,000 to €3,000/semester for undergraduate and €4,000 to €6,000/semester for master's with extensive merit waiver scholarships, while LMU charges €0 tuition with only a minor €150/semester administrative fee). International students benefit from Germany's highest graduate salaries, unmatched high-tech industry recruitment, and the 18-month German post-study job seeker visa (EU Blue Card fast-track).

Fees

Tuition fees in Munich for international students depend on the institution: at Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich (LMU München - #54 QS), tuition is 100% FREE (€0 tuition) for all students, with only an administrative semester fee (Grundbeitrag) of approx. €150 per semester. At Technical University of Munich (TUM - #28 QS), international non-EU tuition for English-taught bachelor's programs ranges from €2,000 to €3,000 per semester (€4,000 to €6,000/year), and master's degrees range from €4,000 to €6,000 per semester (with TUM awarding generous merit waivers and scholarship discounts to top applicants). At Munich University of Applied Sciences (HM), tuition is approx. €0 to €150/semester. Modern student dormitories managed by the Studierendenwerk München Oberbayern (Olydorf / Olympic Village Student Bungalows, Studentenstadt Freimann, Garching campus) cost between €350 and €650 per month (inclusive of all heating, electricity, water, and high-speed Wi-Fi), while private 1-bedroom apartments in Schwabing, Maxvorstadt, and Sendling range from €850 to €1,450 per month (or €550 to €900 for shared flat rooms / WG-Zimmer).
