Why study at Rostock

Rostock is the largest, most vibrant, and historic coastal metropolis in the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern in northern Germany, situated along the Warnow River directly on the Baltic Sea, home to the world-famous seaside resort and cruise port of Warnemünde and Rostock-Laage Airport (RLG). Celebrated for its rich Hanseatic League trading heritage (Brick Gothic architecture, Neuer Markt, St. Mary's Church with its 1472 astronomical clock), pristine white sand Baltic beaches, the annual Hanse Sail regatta (drawing over a million visitors and hundreds of historic tall ships), and its booming regional economy in maritime engineering, offshore wind energy, biotechnology, and medical technology. Rostock is the home of one of the world's most historic and prestigious universities: University of Rostock (Universität Rostock - founded in 1419, the third-oldest continuously operating university in Germany and the oldest in the Baltic Sea region, enrolling over 13,000 students on a historic campus centered around Universitätsplatz). The University of Rostock is globally acclaimed for the Faculty of Medicine (Universitätsmedizin Rostock - one of Germany's premier academic medical centers), Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Marine Technology (leading research in naval architecture, offshore renewable energy, and hydrogen propulsion), Faculty of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering, and Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, alongside the Rostock University of Music and Theatre (hmt Rostock) and the Leibniz Institute for Baltic Sea Research. Degrees are taught in German and English. International students benefit from zero tuition fees (€0/tuition at public universities, only a nominal semester contribution of approx. €315 covering free statewide public transport), low living costs, safe seaside lifestyle, and Germany's 18-month post-study job seeker visa (Aufenthaltserlaubnis zur Arbeitsplatzsuche).
