Why study at Salamanca

Salamanca (globally celebrated as 'The Golden City' / La Ciudad Dorada due to the glowing golden Villamayor sandstone of its monuments) is the historic academic soul of the Spanish-speaking world and one of Europe's most legendary university cities, situated along the Tormes River in Castile and León in western Spain, located just 90 minutes by direct high-speed Renfe Alvia train from Madrid (Madrid-Chamartín). Designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in its entirety, world-famous for Plaza Mayor (widely considered the most magnificent and harmonious baroque square in Spain), the New and Old Cathedrals, the Roman Bridge of Salamanca, the Casa de las Conchas (adorned with over 300 carved scallop shells), and its undisputed global status as the premier destination on earth for learning the Spanish language (attracting over 35,000 international language and university students each year). Salamanca is the home of one of the world's most historic and revered institutions: University of Salamanca (Universidad de Salamanca / USAL - founded in 1218 by King Alfonso IX, the oldest university in the Hispanic world and the third-oldest continuously operating university in Europe, boasting illustrious alumni and professors including Miguel de Cervantes, Christopher Columbus, Hernán Cortés, and Miguel de Unamuno). USAL is internationally renowned for the Faculty of Philology (the global epicenter of Spanish language teaching and the official creator and grader of the worldwide DELE and SIELE Spanish proficiency diplomas in partnership with the Instituto Cervantes), Faculty of Medicine (established in the 13th century), Faculty of Law, Faculty of Sciences (Biotechnology and Computer Science), and the Cancer Research Center (CIC), alongside the Pontifical University of Salamanca (UPSA). Degrees are taught in Spanish and English within the European Higher Education Area (ECTS). International students benefit from exceptionally affordable EU tuition fees (€850 to €3,500/year at public university), very low living costs, unmatched student culture, and Spain's Schengen Student Visa.
