Why study at Zagreb

Zagreb (internationally celebrated as the 'City of Museums' and the vibrant political, economic, and academic capital of Croatia, an EU and Schengen Area member state) is a stunning, safe, and culturally rich Central European metropolis nestled between the southern slopes of Mount Medvednica and the banks of the Sava River, home to Zagreb Franjo Tuđman Airport (ZAG - connecting with direct flights across Europe and the Middle East). Globally celebrated for its Austro-Hungarian 19th-century architecture, the cobblestone Upper Town (Gornji Grad), St. Mark's Church with its iconic tiled coat of arms roof, Zagreb Cathedral, Ban Jelačić Square, the bustling Dolac open-air market, Maksimir Park (one of Europe's oldest public parks), and its booming modern economy in software engineering, fintech, electrical engineering, game development, and pharmaceuticals (housing European tech unicorns and headquarters including Rimac Automobili - world leader in electric hypercars, Infobip, Nanobit, and Pliva / Teva Pharmaceuticals). Zagreb is the flagship home of southeastern Europe's largest and most historic university: University of Zagreb (Sveučilište u Zagrebu - founded in 1669 by Emperor Leopold I, the oldest continuously operating university in Croatia and the western Balkans, enrolling over 65,000 students across 31 faculties and 3 art academies). The University of Zagreb is globally acclaimed for the School of Medicine (MEF Zagreb - offering a world-renowned, fully English-taught 6-year Medical Studies in English MSE program accredited by the EU, US ECFMG, and GMC UK), the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing (FER - premier tech and AI engineering hub in the region), the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB Zagreb - AACSB and EFMD EQUIS accredited), and the Faculty of Pharmacy and Biochemistry, alongside prestigious private institutions like Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT Croatia - awarding dual US and Croatian degrees) and Zagreb School of Economics and Management (ZSEM - AACSB accredited). Degrees are taught 100% in English within the European Bologna Process (ECTS) and automatically recognized across all EU/EEA countries, the UK, USA, and Arab nations. International students benefit from affordable tuition fees, accessible European living costs (€600–€950/month), ZET tram transit, and EU Schengen Area residency benefits.
